According to U.S. Central Command, U.S. Marine Corps troops boarded and searched an Iranian-flagged tanker in the Strait of Hormuz on May 20, instructing the vessel to change course. The ship was suspected of attempting to violate U.S. port blockade measures and was released after inspection.

Since April 13, when the U.S. implemented a maritime blockade on Iranian ports, 91 vessels have been forced to alter their routes, according to U.S. military statements.
