According to on-chain investigator ZachXBT, on January 10th, a victim had over $282 million worth of LTC and BTC stolen in a social engineering scam targeting a hardware wallet. The attacker then quickly swapped the stolen Litecoin (LTC) and Bitcoin (BTC) into Monero (XMR) through multiple instant trading platforms, causing the XMR price to spike abnormally in a short period.

Additionally, some BTC was bridged through Thorchain to the Ethereum, Ripple, and Litecoin networks, indicating efforts to disperse the funds to hide traces. According to the publicly disclosed wallet addresses related to the incident, the total stolen assets now include approximately 2.05 million LTC and 1,459 BTC.

The incident continues to raise concerns about security risks, even with hardware wallets, as users are exploited through psychological manipulation rather than technical vulnerabilities.
