U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve Ships Crude to California for First Time in May

GateNews
According to ship-tracking service Kpler, crude oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve was shipped to California for the first time in May 2026. The unusual routing reflects ongoing restructuring of global trade flows and shipping routes following supply disruptions from Middle Eastern sources amid Iran-related tensions. California, once a top U.S. oil producer, has grown increasingly dependent on imports, purchasing approximately 230,000 barrels per day from the Middle East last year.
