According to CNN, the U.S. House Armed Services Committee released a defense policy bill draft last week containing a provision prohibiting active-duty military personnel and Pentagon civilian employees from trading on prediction markets. The clause requires the Secretary of Defense to issue regulations banning these individuals from conducting prediction market trades using non-public information they possess or could reasonably access. The provision was triggered by a U.S. special forces soldier who was accused of using classified information to bet on Venezuelan President Maduro's arrest on Polymarket, profiting $400,000. If enacted, violators may face criminal penalties under military law.
