Pentagon Tests OpenAI, Google AI Models After Ordering Anthropic Phase-Out

According to Bloomberg, the Pentagon began testing AI models from OpenAI, Google, and other vendors in March, following Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's order to phase out Anthropic as a supply chain risk.

Anthrophlicic is challenging the designation in federal court. The designation came after Anthropic refused to accept the Defense Department's standard "any lawful use" contract terms, maintaining ethical safeguards that bar use of its Claude model for mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons systems.
