According to Bloomberg, Christopher Giancarlo, former U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) chairman, will join Jefferies Financial Group as a senior advisor focused on investment banking in July. During his tenure at the CFTC, Giancarlo oversaw the approval of Bitcoin futures contracts on CBOE and CME.
Jefferies has positioned itself as a "crypto and blockchain full-stack investment bank," completing approximately 14 digital asset deals worth $9 billion and about 100 market structure and technology transactions totaling $141 billion since 2011. The firm currently has around 15 employees dedicated to crypto business. Giancarlo said he will leverage his regulatory network to help Jefferies expand its digital asset investment banking operations.
