Laut Indonesiens Zentrum für Vulkanologie und Katastrophenprävention im Bereich Geologie brach der Mount Semeru in Ostjava am 11. Mai um 10:31 Uhr Ortszeit aus. Die Aschesäule erreichte dabei etwa 1.200 Meter Höhe. Der Ausbruch dauerte 113 Sekunden.
