NVIDIA invests $2 billion each in Lumentum and Coherent to advance next-generation data center optical interconnect technology

According to 1M AI News, on March 3rd, NVIDIA announced multi-year strategic partnerships with photonic device manufacturers Lumentum and Coherent, each investing $2 billion, totaling $4 billion. Both investments will support each other’s R&D, manufacturing capacity expansion, and operations in the United States, with Lumentum building a new wafer fab. The agreements are non-exclusive and include billion-dollar procurement commitments as well as capacity rights for future advanced laser and optical network products.

According to CNBC, the stock prices of both photonics companies surged significantly after the announcement.
