Economist: The timing and scope of the Middle East conflict and the risk of regime change in Iran remain unknown

Odaily Planet Daily reports that Columbia Threadneedle Investments senior economist Anthony Willis stated in a report that from a geopolitical perspective, the duration and scope of the Middle East conflict, as well as how far the US and Israel can go in pushing for regime change in Iran without deploying “ground forces,” remain uncertain. He said, “Currently, it seems there is neither the willingness nor the resources to undertake actions beyond airstrikes.” He pointed out that in the absence of credible opposition forces in Iran, if the US and Israel succeed in overthrowing the current regime, “we might see a situation similar to Iraq and Libya, where chaos ensues due to the lack of a credible successor government.” (Jin10)
