Anthropic Faces Trump's Wrath: All Federal Agencies to Cease Claude's Use

The move comes after Anthropic denied access to Claude, its ts trademark AI model, for advanced military and surveillance applications. Trump stated that there will be a six-month phase-out period, and threatened to use the “full power of the Presidency” to force compliance.

President Trump Directs Federal Agencies to Cease Using Anthropic’s Tech

After the Department of War’s ultimatum pushing Anthropic to remove the guardrails to allow the use of Claude, the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) model, for “all lawful uses,” President Trump has stepped into the conflict.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump rejected Anthropic’s stance of holding their ground and rejecting possible uses of its tech for what the company classified as objectives that “can undermine, rather than defend, democratic values.”

He stated:

“THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL NEVER ALLOW A RADICAL LEFT, WOKE COMPANY TO DICTATE HOW OUR GREAT MILITARY FIGHTS AND WINS WARS! That decision belongs to YOUR COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, and the tremendous leaders I appoint to run our Military”

Labeling the company leaders as “left-wing nut jobs,” Trump stated that Anthropic’s selfishness is putting U.S. military troops in danger and jeopardizing national security.

As a consequence, Trump directed all federal agencies to stop using Anthropic’s AI tech, stating that there would be a six-month phase-out period for this to happen. “Anthropic better get their act together, and be helpful during this phase-out period, or I will use the Full Power of the Presidency to make them comply, with major civil and criminal consequences to follow,” he stressed.

“WE will decide the fate of our Country — NOT some out-of-control, Radical Left AI company run by people who have no idea what the real World is all about,” Trump concluded.

The president’s statements come after Anthropic co-founder Dario Amodei denied direct access to Claude’s capabilities to conduct mass domestic surveillance operations and operate fully autonomous weapons. The company declared that these use cases present “serious, novel risks to our fundamental liberties” and can also put Americans at risk, as today’s AI systems “are simply not reliable enough to power fully autonomous weapons.”

Analysts agree that this unprecedented battle might set a precedent in the relations between the U.S. government and AI companies, including OpenAI and xAi, going forward.

It is still uncertain how federal agencies will substitute Claude, which was reportedly the only AI agent that had access to classified systems and was used actively during the operation that led to the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro in January.
