Funding for several federal departments in the United States will run out on January 30. On the 29th, a spokesperson for Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said that the Democratic and Republican parties in the Senate have reached an agreement on the government funding bill to avoid a partial government shutdown. Schumer’s spokesperson stated that the agreement includes advancing the government appropriations bill to fund most departments for the remainder of the fiscal year, while providing a two-week temporary appropriation for the Department of Homeland Security so that both sides can continue negotiations on restricting immigration enforcement actions by that department.
