PANews January 16th News, the Wikimedia Foundation recently announced agreements with multiple AI companies including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Meta, authorizing the use of Wikipedia content through the Wikimedia Enterprise platform to train large models. New signatories also include Mistral AI, Perplexity, and others. The move aims to address the trend of reduced access due to AI summaries and to provide sustainable revenue for the foundation.
It is reported that Wikipedia is currently the only platform operated by a non-profit organization among the top ten websites worldwide, with a monthly traffic of 15 billion visits and over 65 million articles.
