As Ugandan authorities cut off the internet, Bitchat tops the country's app charts.

PANews January 14 News, according to Cointelegraph, Ugandan government officials confirmed that internet access has been cut off and will remain unavailable during the presidential election that began on Thursday. In this context, Bitchat has become the most downloaded app in Uganda. This marks the third consecutive time that Ugandan authorities have cut off the internet during an election, with officials stating that this move is a necessary measure to curb the spread of online misinformation.
Bitchat is an encrypted messaging app that does not require internet access and is based on a Bluetooth mesh network. It is currently ranked number one on the Uganda Apple App Store and Google Play Store charts. As of January 5, over 400,000 Ugandans have downloaded the app, and that number is likely much higher now.
