Coinbase has paused fiat-related activities in Argentina less than a year after officially entering the market, while still maintaining full cryptocurrency services. According to Forbes Argentina, this decision is described by Coinbase as a “deliberate pause” to reassess its strategy and move toward a more sustainable operating model.
Starting from January 31, 2026, users will no longer be able to buy or sell USDC with Argentine pesos (ARS) or withdraw funds to local bank accounts. Coinbase allows users 30 days to complete transactions and withdraw funds related to pesos before this deadline. However, crypto-to-crypto activities such as buying, selling, sending, and receiving digital assets will continue as usual, and customers’ funds will not be affected.
Coinbase emphasizes that this is not a permanent withdrawal. The company still maintains a presence in Argentina through Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network, and continues to collaborate with local partners.
