Trust Wallet Launches Verification Process After Chrome Extension Security Breach

CryptometerIo

In late December 2025, Trust Wallet confirmed a serious security incident involving its Chrome browser extension. A supply-chain attack compromised version 2.68, allowing hackers to inject malicious code. As a result, attackers accessed wallet data and drained user funds. The company reported that about 2,596 wallet addresses suffered losses totaling nearly $7 million in cryptocurrency

The incident mainly affected desktop users who had installed the vulnerable extension. Trust Wallet responded quickly by urging users to disable version 2.68 and upgrade to the secure version 2.69. Furthermore, the company announced a reimbursement plan to compensate verified victims.

How the Trust Wallet Reimbursement Process Works

To handle compensation fairly, Trust Wallet introduced an official verification system. This process helps confirm genuine claims while blocking fraud and duplicate submissions. Users must submit requests only through the official Trust Wallet claims portal. Any other links or forms likely indicate scams.

During the claim process, affected users need to share specific transaction details. These records allow Trust Wallet to match claims with blockchain data and internal logs.

Key information required includes:

  • Contact email address
  • Affected wallet address or addresses
  • Attacker wallet address, if known
  • Transaction hashes showing the loss
  • Estimated amount of cryptocurrency lost
  • A new wallet address to receive reimbursement

Trust Wallet recommends creating a fresh wallet for compensation to improve security.

Why Verification Matters

The company reported receiving nearly 5,000 claims, which exceeds the confirmed number of affected wallets. Therefore, verification plays a critical role. By cross-checking blockchain records, Trust Wallet aims to ensure accurate payouts and prevent abuse of the reimbursement program.

Importantly, Trust Wallet emphasized that it will never ask for private keys, seed phrases, or passwords during this process.

Following the announcement, phishing attempts increased across email and social media. Scammers pose as Trust Wallet support and request sensitive information. However, Trust Wallet does not send unsolicited verification messages or reimbursement links outside its official platform.

Users should access all security updates and claims directly through trusted Trust Wallet channels. Staying cautious can prevent further losses during an already stressful situation.
