Caroline Ellison is expected to be released in January 2026

Caroline Ellison, former CEO of Alameda Research, is expected to be released from federal custody on 01/21/2026, approximately 4 weeks earlier than the February milestone previously announced, according to the updated records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the end of December 2025.

Ellison was sentenced to 2 years in prison in September 2024 for her role in the FTX collapse, but has served less than half of her sentence. Since October 2025, she has been transferred to community supervision, including transitional housing or house arrest, under supervision in New York.

The reduction in incarceration time is mainly due to Ellison’s extensive cooperation with prosecutors, as she is a key witness in the case against Sam Bankman-Fried – who is currently serving a 25-year sentence.

Despite being close to release, Ellison remains barred for 10 years from holding leadership positions at public companies and cryptocurrency exchanges, along with post-release supervision obligations.
