Ukraine switches to using Google's Gemma framework to develop its national AI system.

Ukraine is developing a large language model (LLM) based on Google's technology, aiming to accurately understand context, dialects, and minority languages such as Crimean Tatar. The project initially uses Google's infrastructure for training, then moves entirely to domestic servers for full control.

The Ukrainian digitization agency and the telecommunications provider Kyivstar announced a project aimed at creating an independent AI system for both military and civilian use. The Ukrainian army will integrate AI into operational management, satellite reconnaissance, and drones.

Data from over 90 government agencies, courts, archives, and Russian war records will help AI understand local languages and terminology better than global models. Four expert councils oversee technical, legal, cultural, and linguistic aspects.

The team is also preparing to protect against cyber attacks, including prompt injection, while installing 3,500 backup generators to ensure continuous operation.
