U.S. M&A Volume Surges to $1.2 Trillion in 2026, Up 32% Year-Over-Year

According to Goldman Sachs in a CNBC report on July 22, U.S. M&A deal volume surged to $1.2 trillion so far this year, up 32% year-over-year, with the number of transactions rising 12%. Goldman's basket of 71 stocks identified as having at least 15% acquisition probability since the end of Q1 has outperformed the equal-weighted S&P 1500 index by approximately 8 percentage points. Goldman Sachs assessed that valuations of potential M&A targets have not fully priced in the likelihood of acquisition.
