U.S. Adds ~24 Chinese Firms to Military Enterprise List, Including Alibaba, Baidu, BYD

The U.S. Department of Defense updated its Chinese Military Companies list on Monday, June 8, adding approximately 24 enterprises identified as supporting China's military development, including Alibaba, Baidu, and electric vehicle maker BYD, as well as memory chip manufacturers CXMT and YMTC, and humanoid robotics company Unitree.

Effective later this month, the U.S. Defense Department will no longer sign contracts directly with listed companies. Starting in 2027, the department will also be prohibited from procuring products or services from these firms through third parties. The move signals Washington's view of China's technology supply chain as strategically competitive.
