According to health authorities, Spain and England announced suspected hantavirus cases on May 8, linked to the Hondius cruise ship. Spain’s Health Ministry reported a female passenger who had contact with a deceased cruise ship passenger and was hospitalized in Alicante province with symptoms consistent with hantavirus infection. The UK Health Department identified a male passenger who had traveled on the Hondius cruise ship and was identified as a suspected case on Tristan da Cunha island in the South Atlantic.
