PBOC Strengthens Crackdown on Virtual Currency Money Laundering, 2,000+ Criminal Convictions in 2025

According to the People's Bank of China, Deputy Governor Xuan Changneng stated that China's anti-money laundering work has entered a new phase of high-quality development with significant progress in combating money laundering and related illegal activities. In 2025, the number of criminal convictions under Article 191 of the Criminal Law (money laundering charges) exceeded 2,000 cases. Since 2022, China has intensified efforts to crack down on professional money laundering, virtual currency money laundering, and cross-border money laundering activities.
