According to the Washington Post, oil and natural gas industry executives warned the White House on June 11 that gasoline prices could surge significantly in the coming months as fuel inventories decline to critically low levels. According to sources familiar with the discussions, industry officials said they are alerting the administration that commercial and government stockpiles are being depleted rapidly, and prices are expected to spike as the buffer that had previously contained inflation erodes. Some inventories could be completely exhausted within weeks, coinciding with the peak summer travel season. Bob McNally, founder of Rapidan Energy Group, stated that the White House is fully aware of widespread concerns among oil companies and analysts regarding oil price trends this summer.
