Myanmar Proposes Death Penalty for Forced Crypto Fraud, Life Imprisonment for Operators

According to The Block, Myanmar’s military government unveiled a draft Online Fraud Prevention Law, proposing capital punishment for coercing individuals to participate in cybercrime and life imprisonment for operating fraud centers or conducting cryptocurrency scams. The parliament is expected to review the legislation in early June. The move follows the U.S. Treasury’s September 2025 sanctions against multiple entities in Myanmar and Cambodia linked to alleged cryptocurrency investment fraud schemes.
