Maersk's July Opening Rates Miss Expectations at $5,300–$5,500, Triggering Shipping Index Selloff

According to Maersk, the container shipping line announced opening rates for its European routes in early July at $5,300 per FEU to Rotterdam and $5,500 to Hamburg on June 17, falling significantly short of market expectations of $6,000. Despite a 400 USD week-on-week increase, the conservative pricing triggered heavy profit-taking among long positions, causing the Containerized Freight Index (CFI) for European routes to plunge with elevated intraday volatility.
