According to a CNN interview on June 6, an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader reiterated that Iran and Oman hold joint sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway that previously transported approximately one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas. The two nations will jointly manage the strait.

The advisor clarified that Iran will collect maintenance fees rather than transit tolls, arguing that Iran should not bear the management costs of the strait alone.
