Iran Conflict Costs U.S. Defense Department $40 Billion as of June 22, Drives Up Fuel Prices

According to CNN, analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) shows the conflict with Iran has cost the U.S. Defense Department approximately $40 billion as of June 22, including ammunition, equipment damage, and base repairs. The conflict also generated an additional $1 billion in costs across other agencies including the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Veterans Affairs. U.S. gasoline prices rose from an average of under $3 per gallon to over $4 during most of the conflict period, resulting in an average additional household expense of $253, according to Brown University energy cost tracking data.
