India's State Fuel Retailers Face 100 Rupees Loss Per Liter of Diesel on May 12, Minister Assesses Viability

According to India’s Oil Minister Puri, on May 12, the government is evaluating how much longer state-owned fuel retailers can sustain losses from selling diesel and gasoline below market prices. Joint Secretary Sharma disclosed that retailers currently lose approximately 100 rupees (about $1.06) per liter of diesel sold and 20 rupees per liter of gasoline. The government has no plans to compensate fuel retailers for these losses, Sharma added.
