India Explores Canadian Heavy Crude at Global Energy Show, Eyes New Supply Route Amid Geopolitical Risks

According to India's High Commissioner to Canada Dinesh Patnaik, India is exploring Canadian heavy crude as a potential new oil supply source amid current geopolitical tensions. Speaking at the Global Energy Show in Calgary, Patnaik highlighted that India's newly operational modern refineries are fully equipped to process heavy sour crude, making Canadian oil such as WCS (Western Canada Select) technically and commercially viable.

The move reflects India's strategy to diversify energy supplies beyond traditional Middle Eastern sources. Canada's heavy crude production aligns with India's refining capacity, offering an alternative in response to regional supply risks.
