Hungary Cancels Crypto Trading Curbs This Week Amid EU Review

According to government spokesperson Anita Köböl, Hungary announced on Thursday it will cancel crypto trading restrictions previously imposed on currency exchanges and service providers. The measures, which required approval verification for exchanges and carried criminal penalties, had significantly reduced trading activity and prompted major platforms to suspend services in the country, triggering EU scrutiny over compliance with European regulations. Under the previous 2025 legislation, individuals or entities conducting unauthorized crypto exchanges faced up to eight years imprisonment.
