Gas Explosion at Shanxi Coal Mine Kills Multiple Workers; Former Inspector Reveals Missing Safety Sensors

GateNews
According to state media reports, a gas explosion occurred at a coal mine operated by Tongzhou Group in Shanxi Province on May 22 at 7:29 p.m., causing significant casualties. A former safety inspector with over 30 years of experience revealed that the mine, classified as a high-risk gassy coal mine, deliberately failed to install gas monitoring sensors to avoid regulatory oversight. The lack of equipment prevented authorities from remotely detecting the mine's unauthorized operations. The inspector also disclosed that when he previously detected gas exceeding safety limits and reported it to management, he was criticized for being "too cautious."
