Fed Appoints Powell as Interim Chair Until Warsh Sworn In; Bowman and Mih Dissent

According to a Federal Reserve statement on Friday (May 15), the central bank appointed Jerome Powell as chair pro tempore (interim chair) until successor Kevin Warsh takes office officially. The Fed stated the interim appointment follows historical practice during chairperson transitions. However, Fed Governors Bowman and Mih opposed the interim leadership appointment. Powell’s current term as Fed chair ended on May 15, 2026.
