China's Gold Reserves Rise for 19th Consecutive Month, Pace Accelerating Over Recent Months

On June 7, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange released official data showing China's gold reserves reached 74.96 million ounces as of end-May 2026, up 0.32 million ounces from 74.64 million ounces at end-April. China's central bank has increased gold holdings for 19 consecutive months since November 2024. Over the past three months, monthly purchases accelerated to 1.6 million, 2.6 million, and 3.2 million ounces respectively, compared to less than 1 million ounces per month between March 2025 and February 2026.
