Polymarket Trading Volume Surges to $100M+ During U.S.-Iran Tensions, April 5-8

Gate News message, April 23 — Polymarket, a prediction market platform, saw trading volume surge to over $100 million during the U.S.-Iran tensions from April 5 to April 8. According to Dune data, 413 million trades related to Iran conflict occurred during this four-day period, driven by uncertainty stemming from Trump's social media statements and policy announcements regarding Iran.

On April 8, a single event contract asking whether Trump would likely deploy troops to Iran generated nearly 100,000 trades, marking the highest single-day trading volume of the year to that point. Trading volume on Iran-related contracts spiked sharply after Trump posted on Truth Social on April 5 demanding Iran "open that damn strait," and again on April 7 when his posts hinted at potential civilizational collapse. Contracts on whether a ceasefire would occur became the highest-volume event after the April 7 posts. Dune's report characterized Trump as an "unpredictable machine," noting how his "Twitter governance" style drove trading activity.

Polymarket currently holds a $9.6 billion valuation, nearly ten times higher than its value eight months ago when Trump Jr.'s venture capital fund made its latest investment round. Trump Jr. holds shares in Polymarket and serves as an advisor to Kalshi; Trump Organization is also building its own prediction market platform, Truth Predict. Trump Jr.'s spokesman Andrew Surabian responded to concerns by stating that Don's involvement as an investor or advisor does not involve contact with the federal government and has no influence on government policy regarding prediction markets.

Separately, Polymarket contracts on whether Trump will face impeachment before the end of his term have risen from 13% at the start of the year to 66% as of this week.
