Alberta Premier Announces Non-Binding Referendum on Independence for October 19

GateNews
According to Jin10, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced on May 22 plans to hold a non-binding referendum on October 19, where residents will decide whether Alberta should remain in Canada or whether the provincial government should initiate legal proceedings for a binding independence referendum under the Canadian Constitution. The specific ballot question will ask: "Should Alberta continue as a province of Canada, or should the Alberta government initiate a legally binding referendum process under the Canadian Constitution to determine whether Alberta should separate from Canada?" Smith stated she personally supports Alberta remaining in Canada but expressed concern about a court ruling that she said interfered with democratic rights of hundreds of thousands of residents.
