VZ – Verizon surprises as mobile subscribers turn positive after years of weak Q1 trends

📌 Verizon reported a fairly positive Q1 2026, even though revenue was not especially strong. Revenue reached $34.44 billion, up 2.9% YoY but slightly below expectations, while adjusted EPS came in at $1.28, beating estimates and rising 7.6%.
💡 The key highlight was postpaid phone subscribers, with Verizon adding 55,000 net customers, its first positive Q1 result since 2013. Broadband also stayed strong with 341,000 net additions, including 214,000 from FWA and 127,000 from fiber.
📈 Adjusted EBITDA reached $13.4 billion, up 6.7% and marking a quarterly record, showing that cost control is supporting profitability. VZ shares rose around 3% after the report, suggesting the market focused more on subscriber quality and margin strength.
⚠️ Verizon also raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $4.95–$4.99, implying 5–6% growth. Still, risks remain from competition with T-Mobile/AT&T, debt-cost pressure, and whether the subscriber momentum can continue in the coming quarters.
