Kelp DAO’s rsETH bridging protocol may have been hacked, with losses of about $292 million

Golden Finance reported that on April 19, the attacker used KelpDAO’s LayerZero-based bridging protocol to steal 116,500 rsETH, worth about $292 million, which is about 18% of the token’s circulating supply, triggering an emergency pause of the core contract.
Because this bridging protocol holds reserves supporting rsETH across more than 20 networks, the loss has raised market questions about rsETH support on Layer 2, and has triggered a wave of freezes across protocols including Aave, SparkLend, and Fluid.
This vulnerability incident became the largest DeFi hack of 2026, occurring against the backdrop of a surge in DeFi attacks, and has brought tremendous pressure to rsETH’s peg mechanism and KelpDAO’s redemption capability.
