I've noticed that in the crypto community, everyone is talking about the altseason again. Let's figure out what it actually is and why people are waiting for this moment as a salvation.
An altseason is essentially a period when altcoins start to grow rapidly, often outpacing Bitcoin itself. Usually, this happens after Bitcoin has already risen and stabilized, or when it is in a sideways trend. The idea is that when the main asset quiets down, investors begin to look for opportunities in other coins. This makes sense from a profitability perspective.
In 2024-2025, there were several reasons why people believed that an altseason would come in spring. First, traditionally, the market revives after winter. Institutional investors return, start new cycles, and rebalance their portfolios. This pattern repeats year after year.
Second, Bitcoin's halving occurred in 2024. Historically, a bullish market begins six months to a year after the halving, and this trend also applies to altcoins. It's a pattern proven over time.
The third factor is macroeconomic. Expectations of easing Federal Reserve policies, lowering interest rates, which usually push capital into risky assets, including crypto. Plus, the new administration was more crypto-friendly, which could also have been a catalyst.
But honestly, I think many people were just hopeful. Most portfolios are in the red, holding dead tokens that haven't shown anything for a long time. They need some movement to break even. That’s psychology. And you know, sometimes psychology works. If everyone starts believing in an altseason and buying, it can indeed create momentum.
But really, an altseason isn’t one wave for all tokens at once. Most likely, only projects that are doing something real will grow. Large caps like Ethereum, Ripple, Cardano, and Polygon had a chance. Infrastructure solutions like Layer 2 networks. And of course, everything related to artificial intelligence.
My advice was simple. If you have dead alts in your portfolio, don’t wait for a miracle. It’s better to redistribute into more liquid assets. Focus on key alts: Ethereum, Matic, Ripple, Ehab. These are more promising projects. And most importantly, don’t forget about Bitcoin and Ethereum as the core of your portfolio. Even if an altseason is heating up, in the long run, they are still more reliable.
As for timing, an altseason was a probability that varied. January 2025 seemed unlikely; people were waiting for the inauguration. February was a transitional period. March-April was considered the most probable start. But as you see, now it’s already April 2026, and the story has already been written. The main thing is that an altseason is not just a word from the internet; it’s a real market cycle that happens again and again.
