As of April 4, 2026, Vitalik Buterin has not ended his Ethereum sell-off. The current actions are part of "planned financial adjustments" rather than panic selling, and he still holds the majority of his core positions.
1. Latest Update: Still executing the plan
Recent activity: Just a few days ago (April 1-2), his related wallets showed ongoing on-chain activity, including selling meme coins sent by others (earning about 14.5 ETH) and transferring funds to privacy tools like Railgun. This indicates that his wallet management continues.
Background of the large-scale plan: In February this year, he launched a plan to sell approximately $44.7 million worth of ETH to support the Ethereum Foundation’s long-term operations (a "mild contraction" mode). This plan is transparent and being executed in phases. There has been no official statement indicating that the plan has been terminated.
2. Core truth: It’s “rebalancing” not “running away”
Position remains large: Although selling, according to data from Arkham and others, he still holds about 224k ETH on-chain (worth over $400 million). The recent sell-off accounts for only a tiny fraction of his total holdings, representing normal asset allocation.
Clear purpose: He explicitly stated that the sales are to convert some volatile assets (ETH) into stablecoins to fund public goods, R&D, and foundation expenses, not a bearish outlook on Ethereum.
3. Market misconception: Don’t interpret “cleaning out trash” as a signal
Many of the “Vitalik is selling” reports you see are actually him clearing out various airdropped tokens like meme coins (such as HUSKY, AKITA, etc.). He exchanges these “trash coins” for ETH or USDC, which is healthy wallet hygiene, and should not be seen as a bearish signal on Ethereum itself.
Conclusion: Vitalik’s sell-offs are long-term, orderly, and transparent financial actions. There are no signs he will stop. For the market, this is a known “slow variable,” with far less impact than macro interest rates or ETF capital flows. There’s no need to overinterpret individual transfers. #Gate广场四月发帖挑战
