Coinbase's AI Payment Protocol x402 joins the Linux Foundation, supported by multiple organizations including Google, Stripe, and AWS.

ChainCatcher message, according to CoinDesk, Coinbase’s smart agent commerce payments protocol x402 has officially joined the Linux Foundation, helping it become open, standardized infrastructure.

The protocol has established an initial governing body, the x402 Foundation, with Cloudflare and Stripe as founding members. Other organizations such as Adyen, Amazon Web Services, American Express, Ant International, Base, Circle, Google, KakaoPay, Mastercard, Microsoft, Polygon Labs, Shopify, the Solana Foundation, Visa, and more have also expressed interest in participating.

Linux Foundation CEO Jim Zemlin said that the x402 Foundation will advance related capabilities in an open, community-governed manner, ensuring they evolve under principles of transparency, interoperability, and broad participation.

James Tromans, General Manager of Google Cloud Web3 and digital asset businesses, also said that joining the x402 Foundation reflects Google’s commitment to supporting interoperable, AI-driven transaction standards.
