Just realized a lot of people are struggling with SASSA updates, especially the SRD grant stuff. Thought I'd break down what actually works because the process is confusing as hell.

So here's the thing: if you're on permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you can't just change your banking details online. You have to physically go to a SASSA office, fill out their Payment Method Change Form, bring your ID and a recent bank statement (stamped, less than 3 months old), and wait up to 21 days for it to process. The account has to be in your name only—no joint accounts, no third-party stuff. And if you want it to take effect next month, you need to submit before the 15th or you're waiting another cycle.

But here's where it gets easier: if you're on the SRD grant, updating your SRD banking details is completely online through their portal. Just enter your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you can update your bank account from there. Takes a few days to weeks to verify, but at least you don't have to leave your house.

Cellphone number changes are similar—permanent grants need a visit or a call to 0800 60 10 11, but SRD let's you do it online through their contact portal. They'll send you an OTP to confirm. Just be careful with fake websites; there's a bunch of scams pretending to be SASSA.

The key thing: whether it's permanent grants or SRD, make sure your bank account is in your actual name. SASSA won't pay into anything else. If you get stuck, the helpline or a local office visit usually sorts it out, just takes time.
