Recently, I was looking for an SMS receiving platform for testing and ran into quite a few pitfalls before finding the reliable ones. Some platforms I used before simply didn't receive the verification codes, others had delays of half a day, which was really frustrating. Later, I compiled a list of five decent SMS receiving platforms to share with everyone.

SMS-Activate is the most frequently used; verification codes arrive very quickly, usually within 10 seconds, and it covers a wide range of countries, making cross-border testing very convenient. Super Cloud SMS has good optimization for domestic number segments, and US number segments are also decent, though it can be slower during peak hours. 5SIM has a user-friendly interface, clear API documentation, and works well for testing major platforms like Google and Twitter. Bird Receive Code is mainly suitable for domestic applications, with codes arriving in about 5 to 15 seconds and good cost performance. Getsmscode is cheap, but some less common platforms may experience delays; suitable for light usage.

The biggest pitfall with SMS receiving platforms is that some numbers are shared, which can easily be flagged as risky numbers. I usually prepare several backup numbers to switch between. Also, don’t use them as long-term primary numbers, as privacy and security cannot be guaranteed. If you're just testing interfaces, any platform that supports API is enough. But if you want stable registration on a specific overseas website, it’s recommended to top up multiple numbers just in case. Some platforms even support one-click number switching, which is very practical and helps avoid waste.

Based on my experience, SMS-Activate and 5SIM are the most stable overall, with low latency and broad coverage, making them the top choices. Others can be selected based on your specific needs. Since these are just for temporary use, you won’t spend too much money.
