One of the largest seizures to date was carried out as part of operations against cryptocurrency fraud in the United States. The U.S. Department of Justice announced that its newly established "Fraud Response Team" has frozen or seized over $580 million in cryptocurrency assets linked to investment scam networks based in Southeast Asia. U.S. Attorney Jeanne Ferris Pirro stated in a joint announcement with federal law enforcement agencies and interagency partners that freezing and seizing more than $580 million in cryptocurrency assets in just three months has been a significant step in combating Southeast Asia-based cryptocurrency fraud networks. These funds are believed to have been stolen from American investors by transnational criminal organizations (TP0) based in China.
