Warren Buffett tells us one thing, and does another?!
Most people listen to investors but few open their portfolios.
Warren Buffett says "Diversification makes no sense if you know what you're doing." But his portfolio says otherwise: Apple = 22% American Express = 18% Bank of America = 10% Coca-Cola = 9% The top 4 stocks = 60% of $267 billion.
Stanley Druckenmiller? Same story. He says he believes in the saying: "Put all your eggs in one basket." But his portfolio has a different opinion: $4 billion, 65 stocks. The top 5 holdings = 42% of the entire portfolio. And the biotech sector alone = 30% of everything.
So who’s lying? No one. They don’t mean "put all your money in one stock." They mean: Diversify, but scale up your positions in your best ideas.
A professional doesn’t choose between diversification or concentration. They build a pyramid. A broad base. A focused top.
The bottom line: The question isn’t whether to diversify or concentrate. The question is: what are your strongest ideas? And does your position size reflect your conviction?
