Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently shared his views on the future of Ethereum, believing that 2026 will be a key milestone for ecosystem reshaping. He admitted that in pursuit of mainstream adoption, Ethereum has made many compromises on certain core values.

Specifically, over the years, Ethereum has faced numerous issues. Running nodes has become increasingly difficult, and data security for DApps has become a major concern. More painfully, the wallet ecosystem has gradually shifted from local RPC to reliance on third-party services, directly leading to continuous leaks of user data. The trend toward centralization in block construction has become more evident, with a few builders holding the power to pack transactions, severely impacting the transaction experience of ordinary users.

Vitalik's core stance is that Ethereum needs to re-examine these issues by 2026, rebuild a stronger decentralized ecosystem, and no longer compromise to expand the user base. This means Ethereum may need to make significant adjustments in autonomy and trustlessness, which will be a test for all participants in the ecosystem.
