Hello everyone, today I want to talk about a project that has been quietly working within the Sui ecosystem—Walrus.

To be honest, when seeing figures like a $2 billion valuation and $140 million in funding, many might think it's a bit exaggerated. But if you truly understand what the storage sector is doing, you'll realize that this project's approach is actually quite restrained. It’s not here to compete with all-in-one players like Filecoin or Arweave, but rather to identify two real pain points within the Sui ecosystem—expensive AI data and the difficulty of on-chain RWA (Real World Assets)—and to root itself there.

Since the mainnet officially launched in March 2025, it has stored over 113TB of on-chain data, with node counts exceeding 100. It may seem low-key, but the logic behind this steady growth is worth pondering.

**What exactly is it storing?**

This is the most critical question. Storage projects are everywhere, but only a few are truly implemented. Most projects shout "decentralized cloud" loudly, only to end up as jokes. Walrus’s cleverness lies in not being greedy—since the testnet phase, it has clearly focused on two directions: data needed for AI training and inference, and various data requirements for on-chain RWA (Real World Assets).

This isn’t aimless spending; it’s about finding what the market truly lacks. Over the past two years, data costs for AI have remained high, and on-chain storage for RWA has always been a bottleneck. Walrus is deeply cultivating these two tracks, gradually building its ecosystem.

From another perspective, the project’s strategy can be summarized as: leveraging Sui’s infrastructure advantages to push into the market, continuously improving features to feed back into the ecosystem, and then reducing storage costs in specific scenarios. This pragmatic approach instead gives it an opportunity to carve out a path amid the giants in the storage sector.

Rooting in the Sui ecosystem is indeed a clever approach; no need to compete directly with Filecoin, it's much more enjoyable.

Rooting in niche tracks is the way to go; don't fall for those grandiose empty words.

honestly, 113TB in 10 months sounds like actual traction not hype. most storage projects are still doing rounds while this one's just... building. the ai data angle especially—feels like they found the unsexy but real use case while everyone else chases the headlines

Walrus's approach is indeed quite interesting. Instead of directly competing with Filecoin, it focuses on the pain points of the SUI ecosystem, which is quite pragmatic.

Walrus's gameplay is really stingy, I like it. Not playing all-around king is smart. However, 113TB from March until now, the average speed isn't that fast. I feel like I need to watch a bit more.

Wow, this gameplay is really solid, unlike some projects that just hype concepts.

I think the walrus gameplay looks good. Not being greedy means it's less likely to die. Focusing on the SUI ecosystem addresses these two pain points quite cleverly.

113TB sounds like a lot, but how much of it is actually being used? I agree with Walrus's restrained approach, but I still want to see whether the AI data segment is a real demand or just hype. Honestly, storage projects ultimately have to compete on cost. Filecoin and Arweave have already gone all out. How much cheaper can Walrus be? RWA on-chain storage? This track was heavily promoted last year. How many projects are actually using it now? A monthly growth of 113TB sounds solid, but I want to know which real applications are generating this data. Don’t end up in an ecosystem self-loop again. The Sui ecosystem does have advantages, but it still lacks leading applications. How will it be able to give back to the ecosystem? The mainnet has only been running for 10 months and already has over 100 nodes. Is this fast or slow? Has it been compared to Filecoin’s early days? A valuation of 2 billion with 140 million in funding looks quite efficient; it’s not overly aggressive.
