Data is the new oil of the new era—this phrase has been heard countless times, but the real question is: if you take your most valuable data stored on a hard drive and apply for a loan at a bank, what would happen? The answer is often being escorted out by security.

The fundamental reason behind this is not complicated. In traditional systems, data is considered dead, passive, and unpriceable. But Walrus's logic is completely different—it’s attempting something crazy: directly converting stored content into financial collateral. This could be the most imaginative growth point in DeFi’s next wave.

The key lies in Walrus’s deep integration with the Sui object model. Conventional public chains only handle storage, but Walrus can do much more. You can package high-value content—such as exclusive AI training datasets, unpublished core code, rare high-definition images—into an on-chain object. These Blob data are no longer just sitting in nodes; they transform into clear ownership, transferable, tradable digital assets.

Even more interesting, since these are assets, future DeFi lending protocols can allow you to collateralize access rights to this data to borrow stablecoins, without necessarily staking tokens from a mainstream public chain.

This is the truly worth pondering: Walrus is essentially assigning financial value to intangible intellectual property. If the borrower cannot repay, the smart contract automatically executes—directly transferring data access rights to the liquidator, all without any legal procedures. This "code as law" efficiency is something traditional IP trading markets could never imagine.

So don’t simply see Walrus as a Web3 version of cloud storage software. When the files in your "cloud drive" start to generate liquidity like physical assets and can be financially valued, you will truly understand—it is opening a market never seen before: the financialization and trading ecosystem of data assets.

From a technical perspective, this logic is indeed interesting, but the problem is—how to solve the information asymmetry in data pricing? Wait, can Walrus really achieve "seamless" settlement of access rights? It feels like there's still a lot of legal ambiguity involved. Referring to Nakamoto's paper, the key bottleneck in decentralized systems has never been the technology itself, but the sustainability of the incentive mechanism. Has this方案 been thoroughly stress-tested? I need to think more about the data collateral idea... Why has traditional IP pledge failed for so many years, and how is Walrus going to break through? Honestly, rather than hyping concepts, I want to see the actual lending protocol design documents—that's the real test of this idea.

Wow, can data really be used as collateral to borrow money? This logic is a bit wild.

Damn, I need to think about this logic. I really didn't expect data to be used as collateral. --- Wait, can Blob data really transfer read permissions so casually? Will smart contract execution crash? --- Finally, someone explained the financialization of intellectual property clearly. It's much more reliable than those boastful whitepapers. --- No, the analogy of security guards being asked to leave the bank is spot on, hahaha. --- The question is, who dares to really use core code as collateral to borrow stablecoins? How is this risk priced? --- The Sui object model combined with Walrus, there's something there. --- Just thinking about data liquidity excites me, but it still feels too early.

Data as collateral? Sounds good, but can it really become liquid? --- Walrus is indeed an interesting idea, much better than just storage. --- It's DeFi and smart contracts again. Will this truly break through or just be another hype cycle? --- Ultimately, it depends on whether someone is willing to mortgage this data to make money. --- Code is law, sounds great, but the real test is when the data gets liquidated. --- It still feels like an early concept stage; true financial valuation is far more complex. --- If this logic works, the rules of the game for intellectual property will indeed need to be rewritten. --- I just want to know how to value a training set—who gets to decide? --- The Sui ecosystem is launching new initiatives again. Let’s see how long it can last.

Using data as collateral? That's brilliant logic; traditional banks could never think of that.
