Since the launch of the Dusk mainnet at the end of last year, I have been paying attention to its developer ecosystem. First of all, the privacy-native smart contracts are indeed innovative, but they require understanding cryptographic concepts like zero-knowledge proofs and selective disclosure, which are not very friendly to beginners. Most of the early active developers have a background in cryptography or compliance experience, and there are relatively few experimental projects.

However, from another perspective, this can be an advantage. Compared to the chaotic competition among other public chains, Dusk takes a more focused approach—giving builders space to explore the possibilities of privacy DeFi. Take DuskEVM as an example; it is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, but with an added privacy layer, meaning existing smart contracts can be upgraded and migrated without exposing data on-chain.

Recently, they launched the Creators Season 2 event to attract developers, with a $10,000 prize pool encouraging the development of private DCA tools and similar applications. I have tested it on the testnet and feel that once the development tools and infrastructure are improved, scenarios like DAO governance and private fundraising can truly achieve privacy.

If you are a developer with programming experience, discussions in the Discord community are quite active, and you might find the next interesting direction.

To be honest, the privacy contract has a bit of a high barrier, unlike some public chains that grow wildly. Dusk is indeed a scarce direction, but whether it can really gain traction still depends on when the toolchain will be improved. A prize pool of 10,000 dollars feels a bit sincere; you might want to try dipping your toes in.

Zero-knowledge proofs, I was completely confused at first, but now I finally have a bit of a grasp. Really, Dusk's approach is definitely more clear-headed than those public chains that try to do everything. DuskEVM is quite interesting; it's like putting an invisibility cloak on contracts, so data privacy issues don't have to be so worrisome anymore. A $10,000 prize pool doesn't seem like much? Actually, it's enough for small developers; the key is to find a reliable direction. The guys in Discord are indeed serious about their work, not just talking on paper.

Zero-knowledge proofs do have a certain threshold, but from another perspective, this might actually be a good thing. In terms of privacy DeFi, Dusk seems to have a clearer plan compared to public chains that try to do everything. The activity prize pool isn't large, but at least someone is taking action.

The cryptography threshold indeed blocks a lot of people, but that also means the competition isn't as fierce.
