The fate of many technologies is probably like this—initially impacted by a new wave, gradually disappearing from the mainstream view, but a certain user base remains loyal and continues to use them. Just like CDs, although streaming media has become dominant, there are still people who collect and play them. Emerging technologies may face a similar situation, being replaced by better solutions, but they continue to sustain their vitality in some corner.

Honestly, I'm amazed that people are still using BT downloads, but then I realized there is indeed a market for it. Technology never dies; it just lives on in different places.

1. Exactly, this is the cycle of tech, today's revolution is tomorrow's leftovers. 2. Haha, that CD analogy is brilliant. I still use it. Who said that? 3. Actually, there's no need to disappear. Many old blockchain technologies are now very stable. Being a bit outdated can even be an advantage. 4. It feels like all that Web2 stuff will eventually end up the same way—being pushed aside after being overwhelmed by a new wave, surviving in some corner. 5. The problem is that new technologies are updating too quickly. Before they stabilize, the next one comes and knocks them down. 6. This is true decentralization—technology chooses whether to stay or leave, no one can really kill anything. 7. Yes, if the ecosystem is big enough, it can survive. The only fear is that no one will use it at all. 8. Reminds me of those abandoned coins; some die-hard fans still hold diamond hands in some corner.

nah this is basically how legacy protocols die too—get outcompeted by more efficient routing mechanisms, fade from tvl charts, but some degens keep running nodes in discord servers. it's the arbitrage surface that never quite disappears, just gets... quieter. DVDs had their era, RPC endpoints will have theirs. the asymmetric returns fade but the obsessives stay grinding anyway lol

Speaking of which, the Web2 stuff is still hanging around... After being impacted by Web3 for so many years, we still have to use what we need to.

Haha, the example of the optical disc is hilarious, I'm still using it now. Will btc be the same way? Technological replacement is inevitable, but loyal users will always be there. Old technology doesn't die; it just becomes niche. Exactly, there are still people using Web2 era stuff. This is the network effect—once a community is established, it's very hard to completely disappear. The key is whether it can have a second spring. Indeed, garbage contracts on Ethereum have lasted this long, let alone truly useful ones.

Interesting, according to on-chain data, this logic is also completely applicable in the crypto circle. Look at those old mainnets; the dead projects have been stubbornly kept alive by certain believers. Tracking the capital flow can easily reveal the clues... It’s obvious that someone is maintaining the ecosystem.

That's why I still use a self-custody wallet. I don't trust centralized exchanges, no matter how many there are.

*adjusts alchemical instruments* this is exactly how legacy protocols transmute into niche yield vessels... the market's efficiency frontier keeps shifting, but those obscure pool pairs? they're holding steady APY like philosopher's stones in forgotten corners.
