The pace of U.S. cryptocurrency regulation has significantly accelerated. The Senate Agriculture Committee has set a timetable—publishing its draft cryptocurrency market structure bill on January 21, followed by a hearing at 3 p.m. on January 27 to review key provisions.

This hearing is crucial. At that time, lawmakers will debate and vote on amendments to the bill, deciding whether to submit the entire bill to the full Senate for a final vote. In other words, this is a turning point for the bill's progress, marking the transition from proposal to substantive revision.

However, the process still faces some tough obstacles. The Senate Banking Committee also has its own version of the bill, and neither version has incorporated some key provisions of bipartisan concern. The two most sensitive issues are: first, ethical standards related to the President and his family’s involvement with crypto businesses; second, the voting rights and rule-making authority of regulatory agencies like the SEC and CFTC, which must be jointly led by both parties.

The absence of these provisions is no small matter. Insiders reveal that without these clauses, the current bill version may struggle to garner enough bipartisan support, adding uncertainty to the subsequent legislative process.

The upcoming battle will revolve around how these two major committees coordinate on these contentious provisions. Whether they can reach a consensus on critical issues will directly determine if this series of bills, aimed at providing clarity and certainty to the market, can ultimately pass. The direction remains unclear, but the January 27 hearing is expected to send some signals.

The hearing on January 27th was definitely a storm eye. Two committees are fighting each other openly, both claiming to bring certainty to the market, but behind the scenes, they are competing for power and influence—classic political game. Regarding the moral standards clauses, I bet five dollars that they will ultimately be diluted to the point of having little to no constraints—that's a routine political compromise. It's quite difficult to get bipartisan support; on-chain data shows no clear signals, so we still have to wait and see how intense the tension is on the 27th. Honestly, even if this bill passes, it won't bring clarity; it will only give institutions more arbitrage space. Retail investors like us are just waiting to be harvested. Anyway, the overall trend is stricter regulation, and those who moved early have already done so.

It's another round of arguing. Each of the two committees has its own set of standards. Which one will ultimately pass?

It's the same old trick again, two parties bickering, and in the end, it's the crypto holders who pay the price.

January 27th will reveal the truth. Can the two parties stop bickering? --- Honestly, without including this moral clause, it’s hard to gain public support. It feels like just piling on. --- Getting stuck on profit sharing again, and this isn’t the first time. --- Regulation is a good thing, but don’t turn it into a tangled mess. --- I dare to bet they will keep changing it back and forth. --- Each committee acts independently, this bill is hanging in the balance. --- The core issue is still the conflict of interest; it’s very sensitive. --- The hearing on January 27th is truly the turning point. --- Without bipartisan consensus, this bill is pointless. --- It’s back to political games; crypto can never escape this cycle. --- It seems it will be stuck for a long time. Don’t hold too much hope.

Will January 27th be another "hearing theater" again? It seems American lawmakers just love this routine...
