The Sui ecosystem gains a new powerful tool. Walrus, a decentralized storage project, just launched its mainnet (March 2025). Its approach is quite straightforward—treat blob data directly as Sui objects, and Move contracts can handle storage, payments, and updates all in one go.
For developers, this simplifies so much. SDKs, APIs, CLI toolchains are all in place, and it’s compatible with traditional web infrastructure caching solutions like CDN, making project migration almost painless. From NFT metadata storage to on-chain archiving, from AI model training data to building decentralized websites, the possibilities are vast.
The economic model is also interesting. The community has reserved 43% of tokens for airdrops and developer subsidies, so early participants can benefit. $WAL can be staked to earn rewards and participate in protocol governance. Delegation competition among nodes is also heating up, indicating strong market recognition for this infrastructure direction.
The combination of Sui+Walrus is filling the storage layer gap in the ecosystem. Once the foundational infrastructure is in place, the ecosystem’s imagination is unleashed.

Early developers who bought the dip should be laughing now, as the 43% airdrop was given away for free. But honestly, storage was indeed a weakness for Sui before.

It's another storage orbit, an airdrop, and a subsidy—I've seen this pattern too many times.
Walrus indeed solves some pain points, but the question is... who will actually use it? How enthusiastic are developers about its performance?
Early birds should consider bottoming out now, waiting for the official launch day.

Another storage project... Is the Sui ecosystem completing so quickly? I'm a bit not used to it.

Another storage layer to cut the leeks? The 43% airdrop ratio sounds very..."familiar"
Sui indeed needs to improve its infrastructure, but whether Walrus can truly support this ecosystem depends on its subsequent performance. Instead of hyping it up so much, I'm more concerned about node operating costs and actual storage requirements.
Developer friendliness is good, but ecosystem applications are the real key.

ngl the composability angle here is what actually gets me excited—blobs as native Sui objects just eliminates so much friction in the abstraction layer. been waiting for this kind of storage primitive tbh

Another infrastructure narrative... but this time there's actually something to it. Using blob as an object with this design feels pretty smooth.

Wow, 43% airdrop reserved. How many people need to rush in? Early birds really made a profit.

Damn, 43% airdrop reserved? How many people are fighting for it... Missed out on the early bird benefits and got diluted to nothing

Another "filling the gap" story, this time about the storage layer... sounds good, but how does it work in practice?

Completing the storage layer is indeed satisfying, but the question is... Will this 43% airdrop truly flow to genuine developers, or will it once again be exploited by opportunists?
